argh!

1977 portrait with santa claus
i'm having a hell of a time with buying holiday gifts this year. i don't have time but i'm too lazy when i have time and sometimes i think of what to buy but then i forget. i'm surprised i'm not getting a bag of coal this year since i'm so not feeling the holidays.
on another note, i love my big bro's form-fitting turtleneck with flared pants and my little bro's leopard print overalls with christmas sweater in this picture. we were rockin' it!

finally!

las vegas for lh's birthday 2005
congratulations to my good friends lh and sk's engagement! they've been dating since 1998/1999 when lh and i started being roommates in the mission. they were just mere co-workers at the time. i remember one saturday morning, i woke up to discover that she wasn't in her room and her bed was undisturbed. it concerned me because i knew she went out with friends the night before but she should've been home. thoughts of a kidnapped friend flew threw my mind as i called sk to see if he knew where she was. he told me that he didn't know. then minutes later, lh called me to say she was alright and sheepishly told me that she was with sk. ah ha!

dimsum and nutcracker

while fdq slept sunday morning, my friend ck and i joined some friends for dimsum at asian pearl. the food was good but i don't know if it was because we were starving after the long wait. nonetheless, we stuffed ourselves. ec's daughter was gracious enough to pick up the tab.

zuni cafe
before watching the nutcracker, fdq and i grabbed a bite to eat at the zuni cafe. we dashed off to the war memorial to catch the nutcracker ballet. fdq had never seen the nutcracker so it was a nice first experience. there were lots of cute kids in the audience, many of them spinning like ballerinas at intermission.

now that we've seen the original nutcracker, next year we'll see the hard nut performance suggested by our cultured neighbors. looking forward to 2008!

pre-holiday festivities

saturday morning, my friend cr and i went to the claremont spa to celebrate her birthday with yummy massages. we had never been there but it was great to de-stress and not think about work although we did talk about work. the claremont spa is a little confusing with the maze of small rooms but the massages were very good. as you can tell in the next picture, cr was more relaxed.

for dinner we met up with friends at the lil' biscuit house. the food was surprisingly yummy and it was fun catching up with friends. i felt really guilty because most of them gave us holiday gifts and i didn't think of giving any! it wasn't supposed to be a gift exchange event but it turned out to be. stop it, people! making me feel all guilty...

later that night we went to our friend's pre-holiday party at their cute and cozy san francisco house. we always have a great time hanging out with them. it was too funny when our host rc passed out at the end of the evening. hope you're feeling better! hee hee!

happy birthday to an old friend

cr, me and am in 1990

cr and i have been friends for half our lives. you really get to know a person when you've known them that long. we've been roommates, travel partners, and basically friends for life. she gives me honesty, intelligence and a different perspective while i try to give her laughs and calmness. i always wish the best for her.
happy birthday, cr!

hanging with the kids

fdq and i went to live105's not so silent night concert friday night for the 3rd or 4th year. it's nice to see 4 or 5 bands in one night but i think i'm too old for this stuff. the crowd was much bigger than the past years we've gone. they were also more aggressive - so much body surfing and moshing to jimmy eats world nonetheless. at times, it appeared that the crowd was spitting up teenagers.
here's a clip of one of the bands angels and airwaves performing. for some reason, the lead singer tom delonge (ex-blink182 singer) dancing reminded us of our friend kl dancing. i think it was the leg stretching and interesting body movements.

on saturday we went to fdq's holiday party. as usual, they went all out with a space theme. they had great food, decor and entertainment. most people were sharply dressed and we had a great time. lucky bastards.

dream office

picture from webcor
i went to a meeting at the Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass firm at the ferry building who have the most beautiful office i've ever seen. not only do you see the fabulous ferry building structure everywhere, the office has huge open spaces the brings in so much natural light and has fantastic view of san francisco and the bay. not only would i love to work there, but i'd live there too!

little birthday bro

today's my younger brother's birthday. we both laugh at our dorky jokes while our spouses shake their heads at us. he doesn't like to spend alot of money but he's not stingy with his kindness. he's smart and warm-hearted. one time when i was little, i woke up from a nap and my little bro wasn't there. my dad told me that they sold him. i cried and cried. turns out he went to the doctor for a checkup. funny, dad.
happy birthday, little bro!

still recovering

from playing rock band friday night. fdq and i went to a friend's house who was hosting a charity poker event (proceeds going to silicon valley humane society). the grand prize for winning was the rock band package which includes the game, guitars, drum kit and microphone. my friend ck and i didn't play poker - i didn't want to think that night - and played rock band all night. of course, we got other people to play/ sing. unfortch, fred got #2 in poker but we all enjoyed being rock stars for a few hours - i was even the band manager. "focus!"

fdq and i spent the rest of the weekend recovering from poker/rock band. saturday fred got his haircut at my hair place jaujou studio. he was very apprehensive because he's been going to his guy for years. believe me, it was time for a change.

sunday night we had a delish meal with fdq's friends at ame restaurant. we've been there once before. the food's good but i just love the decor. dark and modern. then we came home to a huge laundry detergent spill on our floor (long story!) so it was a long night for us.
