indie girls rock

at the halloween party a friend's girlfriend mentioned how much she loved ingrid michaelson. so i looked her up online. her music's very good - reminds me alot of regina spektor. fdq and i went to her concert in sf when he couldn't get tickets to see lily allen. i had never heard of regina spektor but she has a beautiful voice and gave a great concert. we listen to her music alot now. oh, yeah, and we managed to snag tickets to see lily allen, too.

holy 80's flashback, batman!

today duran duran was on the howard stern show promoting a new single or something. they were so huge when i was in high school - every girl i knew was in love with "le bon, simon le bon." i can't believe that they're still together making music - kudos to them for sticking it out for 20+ years. i was surprised that they didn't turn into real estate agents.

oops, now one of my secrets is out - hello, my name is stella and i'm a howard stern fan. back around 2000, i started listening his morning show on live105 and fdq has been sponsoring my habit with sirius since howard has been there for the past couple of years. love him.

what to do when you're stressed to the max

my good friend has been extremely stressed out lately - typical result of too much work and too little time. i tried to help her out today but not sure how successful i was. when i get stressed out, i have to pull back mentally and shake it off. it sounds easy but it's not. i have to keep telling myself that i can't make everyone happy and i can only do so much. then i run away.

but, seriously, i don't know how people manage to squeeze so much stuff in a 24 hour day. i've been reading these creative and clever blogs where they work full-time jobs, raise families, have amazing hobbies and still manage to eat and sleep. do they live in a time warp where time is slowed down? maybe they have superpowers? what is their secret? in the meantime, gotta go - america's next top model is on right now.

happy halloween!

one of the things i love about halloween is all the scary movies shown on tv. the best scary movies are the pyschological ones, not the bloody/gory ones. i just saw most of the 1978 invasion of the body snatchers this sunday and, although the f/x are cheesy, it's still pretty creepy. i think it's that sense of helplessness. also, it's filmed in san francisco, my first beautiful city by the bay. sf loves its halloween - well, until this year's nonparty. i've been to the castro halloween event 3 or 4 times. costumes are amazing and people are generally friendly but i have to agree that it's gotten out of hand. too bad because it's so cool.

rockin' and rollin'

ooo, we just had a quake about 20 minutes ago. it lasted for a while - news says 15 seconds. my neighbor called me to ask if that was a earthquake or just a large truck passing by. then we pondered on what we should do when the big one hits. i've heard hiding under a table is not a good idea because the table would get smooshed, in turn smooshing you. here are some instructions from fema - but can you trust them?

new path for a dear friend

my dear friend ljn (the one holding my wedding bouquet) just got a job offer! yeah! i'm so excited for her because the opportunity is great and timely. she's one of those people who has such a optomistic outlook on life no matter what - you're just drawn to her glow. i'm also happy when great things happen to my friends.
the negotiations have just begun so i'm out a little yeah! before the big YEAH! when the deal is closed. yeah!

what are we up to now: guitar hero 3 & monday night football

before fdq got home from work today, i squeezed in a few songs from the new guitar hero 3. it's definitely an upgrade from gh2. it took me 3 tries to beat tom morello but i think i got the hang of the battle mode.

fdq's watching the denver broncos play the green bay packers. he's waiting for them to pummel poor favre. don't know if that'll happen because i just saw him throw a sweet pass for a touchdown. the image is from the onion. too funny!

birthday bro

tomorrow's my big bro's birthday. he'll be a whopping 38 years old. he's always been a great brother, even during our awkward teenage years. i'm really happy that we're so close as adults. he also just got married this year to a fabu gal. that makes me happy too.

happy birthday, bro!

weekend with friends - old and new

yes, we were sonny & cher this year. i know we look like 70's cheech and a streetwalker but it's close enough. we had a great time at mf&sf's party, hanging out with friends in wigs and funny clothes. so much fun that it was tough to wake up "early" sunday morning to have dimsum at dynasty in cupertino with my excited parents-to-be s&yp. food was yummy and company fun - i haven't seen some of these people for over 5 years and we all live in the bay area. let's keep in touch more often!

congrats to the happy couple!

after getting our dimsum fill, we rushed over to gokart racer in burlingame for fdq's friend's birthday. i actually had a birthday party there many years ago but haven't been back. it was so much fun to get out your aggression on the track. it's deceivingly difficult and tiring - the longest 15 minutes ever. of course, i didn't drive great - i only beat 2 other women in the group because one of them got tired and the other had to go to the penalty box! but all that counts is that it was fun to meet new people - yeah, right! fdq drove crazy, hitting a couple of us into the wall - grrrrrr.

after a year haitus and looking at great blogs, i'm back. yeah, it takes me awhile to get on the internet bandwagon - i just got onto facebook!
well, just got back from a fun night of hot pot and settlers with my brother, his wife, my friend and his girlfriend, and fdq and i. of course, fdq won - he wouldn't have it any other way.
